Kate Clarke totals team-high 24 points
CHICAGO – Despite a back-and-forth first quarter, DePaul women's basketball couldn't handle the fifteenth-ranked Huskies, falling 104-67 on Sunday evening at Wintrust Arena. Sophomore Kate Clarke provided the spark for the Blue Demons with a 24-point outing including four three-point field goals.
Sunday was Clarke's fourth 20-point outing of the season and first since Dec. 17 while reaching double figures for the 11th time on the campaign. Graduate student Katlyn Gilbert recorded her second double-double of the season on 13 points while tying her career-high with 10 rebounds.
Maeve McErlane totaled a career-best nine assists to go with seven points while Anaya Peoples and Jorie Allen posted eight points apiece.
UConn's Paige Bueckers had 30 points to lead the way.
How it Happened
Gilbert opened the game with a second-chance layup followed by a pair of free throws to lift DePaul to a fast start. Four straight baskets from the Huskies created separation for the visitors in the closing moments of the opening period. McErlane and Clarke combined for 10 points in the first as the Blue Demons trailed by 10 with a quarter gone by.
A jumper from Gilbert and a three from Clarke started the second and brought the Blue Demons within five. The Huskies continued to climb, distancing themselves 37-26 halfway through the quarter. UConn put together an 8-0 run in the final three minutes, leaving DePaul trailing, 53-29.
Out of the locker room, the Blue Demons came within 19 on consecutive layups from Gilbert. The Huskies closed the quarter on a 9-2 run to lead 76-49 after 30 minutes of action.
UConn went on a 22-3 run midway through the fourth quarter before freshman Grace Carstensen netted back-to-back triple before the buzzer sounded with the Huskies claiming a 104-67 win.
