DePaul Welcomes Butler to Chicago on Senior Night

Blue Demons and Bulldogs square off at Wintrust Arena Wednesday night
CHICAGO – DePaul women's basketball plays its final home game of the regular season on Wednesday, February 28 as Butler visits Wintrust Arena. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. CST with coverage on FloHoops.

The Blue Demons will celebrate five seniors prior to the start of the game in Jade Edwards, Katlyn Gilbert, Brynn Masikewich, Anaya Peoples and Michelle Sidor.

Wednesday's matchup has seeding implications for the 2024 BIG EAST Women's Basketball Tournament as the Bulldogs and Blue Demons are side by side in the standings with Butler in 9th at 5-11 in league play and DePaul in 10th at 4-12.

Noting the Blue Demons
DePaul (12-17, 4-12 BIG EAST) looks to snap a four-game losing streak heading into the final weekend of the BIG EAST Regular Season with a game against Butler on Wednesday before hitting the road one more time to meet Villanova.

The Blue Demons are coming off of a lopsided loss to then-No. 15 UConn on Sunday afternoon which saw a competitive start before the Huskies ran away with it. Kate Clarke led DePaul with 24-points, her fourth 20-point outing of the season, while Katlyn Gilbert notched her second double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Maeve McErlane dished out nine of DePaul's 17 assists on the day, recording a career-high.

 Graduate student guard Anaya Peoples leads DePaul in almost every category and is the only player in the BIG EAST to rank top-10 in points, rebounds, steals and blocked shots. She is averaging 17.6 points (7th), 8.0 rebounds (4th), 2.6 steals (1st) and 1.0 blocks (8th) per game.

In the first meeting between the two programs on Jan. 31, the Blue Demons claimed a 67-57 meeting behind a 24-point performance from Peoples and a decisive second quarter which saw DePaul outscore Butler. 19-6.

A total of four Blue Demons finished in double figures on the evening with Jorie Allen totaling 12 points and seven rebounds while Michelle Sidor and McErlane added 10 points apiece.

Scouting Butler
The Bulldogs have won four of their last five and are 13-14 overall and 5-11 in BIG EAST games. Senior guard Caroline Strande leads Butler in both scoring (15.2 ppg) and rebounding (7.4 rpg) while dishing out a team-best 75 assists on the season. Freshman Riley Makalusky is averaging 10.4 points since entering the starting lineup on Jan. 24. Butler is shooting the three ball at an efficient rate with four players ranking in the top 10 three-point percentage led by Makalusky's 56-percent clip. Â

DePaul has dominated the all-time series with Butler, 25-1. The Blue Demons are 12-1 against the Bulldogs in Chicago.
