Xavier Outlasts DePaul Saturday Night

CHICAGO – Despite a 17-point performance from Jaden Henley, Xavier outlasted the DePaul men's basketball team Saturday night at Wintrust Arena. Despite several runs from the Blue Demons, DePaul (3-19, 0-11 BIG EAST) couldn't get over the hump.
Churchill Abass and K.T. Raimey joined Henley with double-digit scoring efforts, with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Abass set a new personal best in addition to a career-high nine rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite Xavier (12-10, 6-5 BIG EAST) jumping out to an early 17-point lead, DePaul went on a 10-0 run to cut the Musketeers' lead to seven, 25-18. The Blue Demons went toe-to-toe for the next seven minutes, as a three-pointer from Henley kept Xavier's lead at nine, 38-29. The Musketeers ended the half with four made free throws to extend their lead.
After both teams traded some early trips to the free throw line in the second half, Xavier put together a string of nine unanswered points for a 68-44 lead. DePaul continued to try to claw back into the game with an 11-2 run of their own but the Musketeers were powered by Quincy Olivari who notched a career-high 43 points on the night.
OF NOTE
- DePaul's 34 free throw attempts were the most for the Blue Demons since Feb. 27, 2022 against St. John's.
- The 26 made free throws and 34 attempts both rank second among BIG EAST games this season.
- Nelson's 7-for-7 performance at the free throw line was the best for any DePaul player this season.
- Jalen Terry and Mac Etienne both tied career-high steals with three and two, respectively.
- DePaul tied a season-high nine steals as a team.
