DePaul seals victory over Army Sunday morning
WEST POINT, N.Y. – DePaul men's tennis knocked off Army in its weekend finale on Sunday morning, 4-1. With the victory, the Blue Demons (3-3) extended their winning streak against Army (2-3) to three games.
"It was a pretty simple one today, it was just all about competing," said head coach Matt Brothers. "We recognized that our guys weren't close to 100%. Our message was to leave the match with an empty tank and have no regrets – and that's the message we delivered."
For the second straight day, DePaul could not field a doubles team at the No. 3 position and a singles player at the No. 6 spot. However, the team quickly gained an advantage with decisive doubles victories from Sven Moser and Shourya Verma, 6-1, and Matteo Iaquinto and Pablo Torres Almeida, 6-2.
The early momentum set the tone for the morning, ensuring a steady and dominant performance by the Blue Demons.
DePaul won four of five sets to begin singles, with two 7-5 first-set wins by Iaquinto and Moser at the No. 2 and No. 5 spots, respectively.
Three straight-set victories by Moser, Torres Almeida, and Iaquinto ultimately put the Blue Demons over the top in clinching their third win of the season.
