Bernstein Brings Home Gold
CHICAGO – DePaul track and field completed UCF's Black and Gold Invite Saturday afternoon. Alex Bernstein brought home gold for the Blue Demons after dominating the men's hammer throw.
"The student-athletes that traveled to this meet, were able to take advantage of the weather and level of competition to really start the season on a great note," said head coach Dave Dopek. "I am impressed with how they managed the quick turnaround from indoor and were able to come out and get after it right away. While I am aware that it is very early in the outdoor season, I believe we will be well represented on TFRRS as we prepare for our next meet in two weeks. In short, the performances this week bode well for the next several months."Billie Martin kicked off the day with DePaul's first top-three finish of the morning after taking third and achieving a new personal best in the women's hammer throw with a final mark of 58.32m. Bernstein's performance followed, also achieving a new personal best and winning the men's hammer throw with a final mark of 67.73.
Kash Allen also participated in hammer throw, on the women's side, finishing with a final mark of 38.75m. Freshman Jaiah Hopf placed fifth in the women's triple jump with a final mark of 12.43m to round out Saturday's field events.
