DePaul adds second conference win

CHICAGO – DePaul men's tennis defeated Georgetown at home on Friday night in a 4-3 decision. The Blue Demons (7-8) move to 2-1 in conference play after a 4-1 start to the evening.

"Tonight's win will definitely bring more confidence to this group," said head coach Matt Brothers. "It also shows us that there is a lot more work to be done to get to where we want to be."

DePaul continued its impressive stretch in doubles play with 6-3 victories by Shourya Verma/Jona Gitschel at No. 1 and Leon Huck/Sven Moser at No. 2. Huck/Moser added their team-high eighth doubles win of the season, with Verma/Gitschel reaching seven on Friday evening.

Moser made quick work of Burke Pablo at No. 6 to begin singles, securing an impressive straight-set victory, 6-2, 6-1, to put DePaul ahead 2-0.

The Blue Demons picked up their third point in a three-set nail-biter at the No. 2 position, with Verma knocking off Arthur O'Sullivan, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3.

At No. 5 singles, Pablo Torres Almeida clinched the deciding fourth point for DePaul in his return to the court. In a second-set tiebreaker, Torres Almeida bested Sahil Morey 6-4, 7-6 (7-2), to automatically give the Blue Demons the victory.

Two third-set tiebreakers at No. 3 and No. 4 would eventually end in favor of Georgetown, making the final score 4-3, DePaul.

UP NEXT
The Blue Demons travel to the sunshine state for a spring break slate featuring Florida Gulf Coast, Brown, and Florida Atlantic, March 26-30. Tuesday's against FGCU will take place in Fort Myers, Fla. with first serve at 4:00 p.m. CT. Action on Thursday and Saturday will begin at 11:00 a.m. CT from Boca Raton, Fla.
