Blue Demons get back to .500 on season

FORT MYERS, FLA. – DePaul men's tennis secured its second-straight victory on Tuesday evening, defeating Florida Gulf Coast in a 6-1 decision. Sven Moser clinched the victory for DePaul (8-8) in convincing fashion to open its week in Florida.

The 'Band of Brothers' began their 2024 Spring Break Tour by bouncing back to an even record on the season, conceding only one court in both singles and doubles in Fort Myers, Fla.

To begin doubles, reigning BIG EAST Men's Doubles Team of the Week Shourya Verma and Jona Gitschel, teamed up at No. 1 to take down FGCU's Oncins/Bunjes, 6-3.

In the match determining the doubles point, Leon Huck and Moser snuck past Michalowski/Paternostro at the No. 2 doubles position, 7-6 (7-2).

With the Eagles' unable to field a player at the No. 6 singles spot, Gitschel was granted a walkover victory to push the Blue Demon lead to two.

A quick straight-set victory by Pablo Torres Almeida at No. 4, 6-2, 6-2, gave DePaul a commanding lead, which they maintained for the rest of the evening.

At No. 5 singles, Moser clinched the deciding fourth point for DePaul in a straight-set victory over Michalowski, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.

The Blue Demons picked up two third-set tiebreaker wins at No. 1 and No. 3, courtesy of Huck, and Matteo Iaquinto, bringing an electrifying close to the evening's competition.
