DePaul Set to Square Off Against Middle Tennessee

Women’s tennis visit Blue Raiders in midweek matchup
CHICAGO – DePaul women's tennis looks to continue its hot stretch with a matchup against the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders in Murfreesboro, Tenn. on Wednesday, March 27. DePaul has won seven of its last eight matches including a weekend sweep at XS Tennis Village with a dominant 6-1 victory over Georgetown on Friday, March 22 and edging Creighton in 4-3 triumph the following day.
Wednesday's match marks the second time the two programs have faced one another. The previous contest resulted in a 4-3 home victory for DePaul on March 6, 2022. In the meeting, Eleanor Nobbs secured a 7-6, 2-6, 6-4 clincher on court three to give the Blue Demons the win. Nobbs and company look to continue their winning ways with first serve scheduled for 4:00 P.M. at the Outdoor Tennis Facility.
DePaul (12-6) enters the match as one of the hottest teams in the BIG EAST. In Friday's competition against Georgetown, the Blue Demons took the doubles point once again. The tandem of graduate students Emily Casati and Yuliya Kizelbasheva toppled the Hoyas' Olivia Ashton/Morgan Coburn, 6-1 on court two. Nobbs and graduate student Mayya Perova notched a swift, 6-0 triumph in the No. 3 slot. Success continued in singles action with five of six players garnering victories including red-hot Emily Casati. The Deerfield, Ill. native earned a 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 on court five extending her winning streak to then- 10 matches. At No. 3 singles, Greta Carbone locked up a straight-set victory over Katie Garofolo-Ro 6-2, 6-4. On court one, sophomore Hannah Smith battled in a back-and-forth affair, outlasting Chloe Bendetti 6-2, 0-6, 7-5.
Saturday's match against Creighton added another tally to the win column. Nobbs and Perova handled Annika Elvestrom/Ana Paula Martinez on court three, besting the Bluejays' pair, 6-1. Casati and Kizelbashava tallied a 6-2 win earning the duo BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week and improving their winning streak to seven matches. This is the tandem's second honor of the dual season. Both players won their singles matchups, first with Casati commanding a 6-0, 6-1 win on court five, elevating her dual season record to 11-3. Kizelbasheva grinded out a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 advantage in the fourth slot having won three matches in-a-row. No. 6 singles, Sasha Stula shutdown Allison Wilcox in a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Middle Tennessee State (8-8) will enter the match on a two-game slide. Last time out, the Blue Raiders fell to UAB 6-1. Prior to the losing streak, MTSU had won three in-a-row including shutout wins over Tennessee State and Eastern Kentucky. The Blue Raiders are 5-3 at home this season. Sana Garakani leads the way on court one with an 8-6 record during dual play.

The Blue Demons will head to the Big Apple to take on St. Johns in Queens, N.Y. on Friday, April 5. First serve is scheduled for 10:45 A.M. CT. Following the match, DePaul will travel to South Orange N.J. to face Seton Hall. The match with the Pirates is set for Saturday, April 6 at 12:45 P.M. CT.
