DePaul squares off against Cal Poly and Grand Canyon
SAN LUIS OBISPO, CALIF. – DePaul men's tennis hits the road for a pair of matches in California's Central Coast region, March 8-9. The Blue Demons (6-6) travel to San Luis Obispo, roughly the halfway point between Los Angeles and San Jose, Calif., for battles against Cal Poly and Grand Canyon. Matches are set to begin at 2:00 p.m. CT on Friday and Saturday at the Mustang Tennis Complex.
DePaul heads into the weekend having clinched victories in two of its last three matches, with a standout performance being their dominant 6-1 win over BIG EAST rival Marquette on Sunday, March 3. Across six singles and three doubles contests, the Blue Demons yielded just one court, highlighting their impressive outing.
Fresh off his third straight BIG EAST Weekly Award, graduate student Leon Huck enters Friday with four wins in his last five matches at the No. 1 singles position for DePaul.
In doubles, the Blue Demons are led by Huck, Shourya Verma, and Sven Moser, each boasting seven victories this season. Additionally, junior Matteo Iaquinto leads the team in singles with seven victories as well.
The Blue Demons last faced Cal Poly (2-4) in a match on February 23, 2013, during which DePaul fell in the neutral-site feature in Tucson, Ariz. The Mustangs enter the match following three consecutive losses to Boise State, #16 San Diego, and #42 Oregon.
Grand Canyon (2-9) enters the weekend after facing a string of seven straight losses, contending with four opponents ranked in the top 75. The 'Lopes have secured victories against Eastern Washington and UC Riverside in their eleven matches this season.
