Martin Earns First, DePaul Closes Out Day One of the Gibson Invitational

Four Blue Demons Earn New Personal Bests
Terre Haute, Ind. – DePaul track and field closed out its first day of the Gibson Invitational Friday evening. The Blue Demons brought home two top-three finishes, including Billie Martin's gold.
Martin kicked off the day with the women's hammer throw. The Ontario native won her first event of the outdoor season, dominating the competition with a final mark of 54.74m. Noelle Malkamki followed up in seventh place, while Jessica Beckman and Kash Allen collected new personal bests at 16th and 17th place respectively.
On the men's side, Thomas Goggin led the Blue Demons with a final mark of 48.84m and Ian Cox earned a new personal best with a final throw of 45.24m.
Continuing on the field, Beckman and Allen took to the women's javelin throw. Beckman finished in eighth with Allen following in 23rd.
On the oval, William Previdi claimed DePaul's second top-three finish of the day, earning bronze and a new personal best time of 9:12.30 in the men's steeplechase.
The women's 5000m race rounded out the competition, freshman Gianna Sanchez earned a final time of 18:16.66 while Meaghan Andrews earned a final time of 19:13.71.
