Blue Demons Fall in BIG EAST Championship

No. 2 DePaul drops title to No. 1 Xavier, 4-2
CAYCE, S.C. – DePaul women's tennis fell to No. 1 Xavier on Monday afternoon in the BIG EAST Championship 4-2, closing its 2024 campaign.
Following a dominant performance on Sunday with a sweep over St. John's at the Carolina Indoor Tennis Center in Columbia, S.C., the Blue Demons jumped ahead early against Xavier, securing the doubles point to begin the bout.
At the No. 1 spot, Greta Carbone/Hannah Smith teamed up to take down Imani Graham/Anna Roggenburk, 6-4.
Emily Casati/Yuliya Kizelbasheva impressed at No. 2 in their 6-4 victory over Ellie Brotherton/Abby Nugent to give DePaul an early advantage heading into singles.
Although Xavier rallied to claim the opening singles match at No. 1, the Blue Demons responded with a straight-set victory by Casati at No. 5, dominating by a score of 6-3, 6-2.
After dropping the No. 2 court, Carbone and Kizelbasheva took their opponents at No. 3 and No. 4 to decisive third sets. Despite their valiant effort, the two ultimately fell to their Musketeer counterparts, giving Xavier its fourth consecutive BIG EAST Championship title.
The 2024 Blue Demons concluded their season with a commendable 17-8 dual record, marking the most in head coach Marisa Arce's five-year tenure.
