The Blue Demons add two freshman and two transfers to a new look roster
CHICAGO – DePaul women's tennis head coach, Marisa Arce finalized the 2024 recruiting class that has their sights set on another BIG EAST Championship appearance.
"We will have a very young team this season, and I'm looking forward to the opportunity to show them the best parts of college athletics. They're all hungry to get to work and they each committed to our team and our culture," said Arce.
After losing four players from a team that tallied 17 wins last season, the most in the Arce era, the newcomers have an opportunity to play a vital role in the success of the squad for the 2024-25 season.
The first transfer named to the Blue Demons roster is sophomore Helin Alvarez. A native of Maracay, Venezuela, Alvarez spent her freshman campaign at Chicago State. Alvarez dominated with a 18-3 overall record and led the Cougars to Horizon League regular season and tournament titles along with a berth to the NCAA tournament. During her junior career, Alvarez was the No. 2 rated player in Venezuela and represented the country in the South American games and the COSAT Cup.
Arce and Co. added Roberta Sechi, a sophomore transfer from Sam Houston State who brings collegiate experience to Lincoln Park. Sechi finished her freshman year on a high note, claiming two victories in the final three doubles matches of the season. Originally from Sassari, Italy, Sechi earned national rankings while competing in juniors. She advanced to the doubles final in the Absolute Sardinian Championships in 2023 and competed in the Next Gen circuit from 2017-2019 as a young player.
Incoming freshman Isabella Gibson made deep tournament runs on the international level throughout her junior career. The York, England native won doubles at J5 Dublin in April 2022 and was a doubles finalist three times while competing in tournaments held in Morocco, Qatar, and Ireland.
Eleanor Cochran is the first Scottish player to join the team in program history. Hailing from the city of Kilmacolm, Cochran was ranked as the U18 No. 1 player in Scotland. She claimed both the Scottish Cup and the Scottish Indoor Doubles Championship during her tenure as a junior player. Cochran reached the doubles semifinal at J4 Edinburgh and J5 Edinburgh.
"There's no family like ours at DePaul and I'm eager to help them each reach their goals, both on and off the court," Arce concluded.
