Men’s Soccer Opens BIG EAST Play Against No. 25 UConn

CHICAGO – DePaul men's soccer opens the BIG EAST portion of its fall campaign on Friday, Sept. 20 when the 25th-ranked Connecticut Huskies visit Wish Field. Kick off is set for 2 p.m. with coverage carried on the BIG EAST Digital Network via FloSports.

Demon Doings

DePaul is 2-3-1 on the season with 10 regular season matches remaining, including five at Wish Field.
The BIG EAST is in its second season of a two-division format, seeing each squad playing its five divisional members once in addition to three crossover matches. DePaul will face Midwest Division members Akron, Butler, Creighton, Marquette and Xavier while meeting East Division programs, Connecticut, St. John's and Georgetown.
The Blue Demons turn the page to conference play after a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Mercyhurst on Sept. 13.
Against the Lakers, DePaul trailed 2-0 and equalized in the 61st minute behind second-half goals from Noeh Hernandez and Logan Finnegan but couldn't produce the desired result.
Hernandez, the 2023 BIG EAST Co-Freshman of the Year, leads the Blue Demons in points with 7 (2G, 3A) and shots (16).
Finnegan ranks sixth in the conference with a team-best three goals.
Sophomore forward Keagan Pace has four assists to his credit through six matches, tying him for the league-lead.
DePaul has showcased its depth in attack with 10 different Blue Demons scoring a goal in 2024, the most unique goal scorers since the 2021 campaign (10).

UConn Notes

The Huskies entered the United Soccer Coaches rankings at No. 25 this week with a 5-0-1 record, going unbeaten against regional foes.
Freshman midfielder Sabri Hanni leads the Huskies with four goals in 2024, which ranks third in the league, while preseason all-conference selection Scott Testori boasts a team-best four assists.
UConn was picked to finish fourth in the East Division in the BIG EAST preseason Coaches' Poll.
Chris Gbandi is in his third season as the head coach at his alma mater.

Series Stuff

Friday marks the seventh all-time meeting between the two programs with the series tied 3-3.
DePaul is unbeaten (2-0) in a pair of matches hosted in Chicago.
The Blue Demons are 5-11-3 in BIG EAST openers through 19 seasons in the conference.
The last league lid-lifter to go in favor of the scarlet and blue came on Sept. 25, 2021, a 1-0 victory over UConn at Wish Field.
