Blue Demons earn two top-five team finishes at Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – DePaul cross country concluded its stay in South Bend, Ind. at the National Catholic Invitational with a fourth-place finish in the women's 5k race and a fifth-place finish in the men's 8k race, Friday evening.

Due to a scheduling change, the original start times of 2:30 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. CT were adjusted, with both the men's and women's races beginning at 4:15 p.m. CT. The women's race concluded after their second lap, and the men's race after their third lap at the Burke Golf Course.

On the women's side, freshman Tessa Roe led the Blue Demons with a 21st-place finish, clocking in at 17:56.8 in the 5k. Teammate Meaghan Dieball followed closely behind, finishing in 22nd place with a time of 18:01.4. Both athletes achieved personal records in the event.

Isabella Orozco, Gianna Sanchez, and Vivian Wyller finished within 12 seconds of each other, rounding out DePaul's top five runners and securing a fourth-place team finish in the women's 5k race.

For the DePaul men's team, three runners placed in the top fifty. Graduate student Damian Rodriguez led the way for the Blue Demons, finishing 27th with a time of 24:49.2.

Lucas Cunningham and Mason Krieg finished with times of 25:29.9 and 25:35.00, earning 39th and 42nd places, respectively.

Seniors Will Previdi and Griffin Lehnhardt placed 57th and 65th, pushing the men's team to a fifth-place finish in the 8k at Notre Dame.

DePaul made significant improvements from its previous performance at the 2018 National Catholic Invitational, where the men's team placed eighth and the women's team finished ninth in their respective events.
