
DePaul Collects Seven Victories on First Day of WMU Invite

Blue Demons tally three doubles and four singles wins on first day of tournament
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – DePaul men's tennis began its second weekend of fall tournament action at the Western Michigan/Vredevelt Invite on Friday, Sept. 20. The two-day invitational features Butler, Cleveland State, and Youngstown State alongside host Western Michigan.
Friday's matches started at 8:00 a.m. CT, with two rounds of doubles followed by one round of singles contests.
In the first round of doubles play, senior Matteo Iaquinto and freshman Tobias Leitner secured the first victory of the day for the "Band of Brothers," defeating Balci/Van Craenenbroeck of Youngstown State, 6-2.
The Blue Demons went undefeated in the second round, with Iaquinto/Leitner notching consecutive wins, prevailing 6-4 against Corwin/Evans (WMU).
Freshman Andy Hadziabdic followed suit, recording a 6-3 triumph while teaming up with Cleveland State's Ty Rothchild for the match.
In singles competition, Iaquinto continued his strong performance. After taking the first set 6-2 against Carl Gedlitschka (CSU), the Italy native did not relinquish the lead, claiming the second set 7-5 and adding to the Blue Demons' win total.
Senior Sven Moser emerged victorious in a thriller against Cole Chappell of Cleveland State. After dropping the opening set 6-7 (3), Moser roared back with a 6-2 win, forcing a decisive third set. The veteran leaned on his experience in close matches to secure the tiebreaker 10-7.
Hadziabdic faced Arnesh Singh (Butler), earning a swift 6-2, 6-3 victory.
Finally, sophomore-transfer Quang Vinh Nguyen outlasted Van Craenenbroeck (YSU) 6-4, 6-1, marking DePaul's seventh and final triumph of the day.
