Blue Demons add nine victories on day two
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – DePaul men's tennis closed out its stay at the WMU/Vredevelt Invitational Saturday evening with a total of ten singles victories and six doubles wins.
Matteo Iaquinto and Tobias Leitner led the way in doubles, defeating Youngstown State's Filipp Avdeev and Matteo Ceradelli, 6-3, maintaining a perfect 3-0 record in the tournament.
The doubles pairings of Jona Gitschel/Thomas Giles and Pablo Torres Almeida/Quang Vinh Nguyen each earned their first doubles victory of the weekend with 6-4 and 6-2 wins, respectively.
In singles play on Saturday, Giles opened with a thrilling three-set win over Western Michigan's Adrian Quiros, 6-3, 3-6, 10-5.
Leitner and Vinh Nguyen both excelled in their second singles matches of the weekend, securing straight-set victories.
In the final round of singles in Kalamazoo, Torres Almeida notched his first singles win of the weekend, defeating Butler's Nicolas Arts in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
Closing out his second weekend as a Blue Demon, Andy Hadziabdic impressed with a comeback victory over Rahulniket Konakanchi, 3-6, 6-1, 10-6.
Austria native Tobias Leitner led the way for DePaul at the 2024 WMU Invitational, securing a total of five victories on the weekend.
