DePaul Tallies Second Sweep of Chicago Cup

Brooker records season-high nine kills
CHICAGO- The Blue Demons defeated the UIC Flames 3-0 (25-17, 27-25, 25-23) Friday night, adding their second sweep in as many games of the Chicago Cup tournament. DePaul improves to 8-3 on the season.
The Blue Demons were paced on offense by outside hitter Jill Pressly, who poured in 11 kills and seven digs. Pin hitter Audrey Klemp contributed 10 of her own, for her eighth match with double-figure kills. Junior Grace Brooker registered nine kills, a season-high for the Kentucky native.
Defensively, libero Rachel Krasowski recorded 13 digs, three assists, and a service ace for the Blue Demons.
Setter Amanda Saeger notched 19 assists and eight digs, while senior Ashley Cudiamat tallied 18 assists and five digs on the night.
UIC was led by outside hitter Antonie Kelnarova, who posted 11 kills.
"That match was incredible," said head coach Marie Zidek.
"Both teams went after each other. It was exactly what we knew it was going to be. We held defensive composure while bringing offensive aggressiveness while managing the long rallies really well. In the end, it came down to end of set management. How were both teams going to play extend, cover, win the ten feet box, that's what decided that set. Our setters continue to find ways to get all of our attackers involved and our ball control is doing a phenomenal job giving them the opportunity."
HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET ONE: DePaul started strong with a kill from senior Aly Kindelberger and an ace from freshman Abby Cahill, but the set remained close as the two sides traded points. DePaul pulled away late, led by two kills from Brooker, and the set victory went to DePaul, 25-17, closed with a second Kindelberger kill.
SET TWO: The set opened with the teams swapping kills for five straight points. Neither side could pull away, tied as late as 25-25, but it was consecutive kills from Kindelberger and Klemp that gave DePaul a hard-fought 27-25 set win.
SET THREE: DePaul led by as many as four early, propelled by three Pressly kills. The Flames would not go away and three kills from junior Cleo Lorenzo kept UIC in the set. Tied again late, kills from Brooker and Kindelberger put the set away for DePaul, 25-23.
