DePaul collects five victories Friday
ELM GROVE, Wisc. – DePaul men's tennis concluded its first day at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic on Friday, Sept. 27, with four singles and one doubles victory against athletes representing Northwestern, Notre Dame, and Wisconsin.
To begin the day, Pablo Torres Almeida and Quang Vinh Nguyen teamed up to take down Fullerton/Beduhn of Wisconsin in a 7-6(5) thriller. Torres Almeida and Vinh Nguyen advanced to the doubles quarterfinals round on Saturday, with their opponent yet to be determined.
Three Blue Demons secured singles victories Friday, with Torres Almeida most notably earning two consecutive wins to advance to Saturday's singles quarterfinals. Torres Almeida defeated Beduhn for the second time on Friday in a 6-1, 7-6 decision. In the subsequent round, Torres Almeida continued his dominant run, knocking off Notre Dame's Yu Zhang, 6-4, 6-4.
Vinh Nguyen earned his first singles win of the MTC by defeating Owen Megargee of Northwestern, 7-5, 6-1.
In the round of 16 consolation, freshman Tobias Leitner secured a straight-set victory over another Notre Dame opponent, Kyran Magimay, 7-6, 6-3, concluding DePaul's first day at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic.
