Pressly powers offense with 13 kills
INDIANAPOLIS – DePaul volleyball defeated the Butler Bulldogs 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-16) Friday night, earning their second BIG EAST win in as many conference matches. The Blue Demons record their fifth win in straight sets and improve to 10-4 on the season.
Offensively, DePaul was paced by graduate student Jill Pressly, who tallied 13 kills and eight digs. Pin hitter Audrey Klemp poured in eight kills, along with three blocks.
Junior Grace Brooker contributed seven kills and three blocks, while senior Aly Kindelberger registered four blocks of her own.
Setter Ashley Cudiamat extends her streak to fourteen matches in double-figure assists, notching 18 assists and seven digs. Fellow setter Amanda Saeger chipped in 17 assists on the day.
Libero Rachel Krasowski paced the defense with 12 digs.
The Bulldogs were led by outside hitter Alaleh Tolliver, who added 10 kills and seven digs.
"Such an important match for three reasons," said head coach Marie Zidek.
"First, we have put together an incredible preseason block of both training and matches where every single person on roster has had match responsibility and therefore been afforded the opportunity to build confidence. We told the team today to cut loose now, and start applying that confidence to a higher gear. Second, we pushed back in that second set showing that no matter what, we know we won't go away. It was an incredible performance in set three to close out any hope from the opponent. We grew during this match, and most importantly now hold a conference tie break over both Butler and Xavier since we only face these opponents once this season."
HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET ONE: DePaul went on an early 4-0 run with two Pressly kills, and never relinquished the lead. Another 6-0 run and two late kills from Brooker secured the set victory, 25-16 in favor of the Blue Demons.
SET TWO: Butler jumped out to a 7-1 lead at the start of the set, but the Blue Demons would not go away, with strong defense at the net from Brooker, Kindelberger, and Scholz. Tied at 23 after trading points late, kills from Pressly and Brooker earned DePaul the hard-fought set, 25-23.
SET THREE: The third set was close early with three kills from Klemp, and two from Tolliver to keep Butler within one point. A 5-0 run from the Blue Demons pushed their advantage to seven, and Butler could not close the deficit. Two kills from Kindelberger and a Bulldog error concluded the set win for DePaul, 25-16.
