Blue Demons finish 6-0 in doubles action on day two
TOLEDO, Ohio – Women's tennis finished its first tournament weekend of the year competing in the second, and final day of the Rocket Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 28.
Doubles action began against Michigan State at 9:00 a.m. CT on the UT Varsity Tennis Courts. Junior Hannah Smith and sophomore Roberta Sechi won in convincing fashion, 6-2. The tandem of Eleanor Nobbs and Eva Goncharov also picked up a victory, defeating Hanna Tsitavets/Natalie Stasny, 6-4. Sophomore Sasha Stula and freshman Isabella Gibson made quick work of the Spartans' Amara Brahmbhatt/Sarah Fazlagic, 6-2.
The Blue Demons took on Youngstown State in round two of doubles starting at 10:00 a.m. CT. Smith and Sechi racked up another victory with a 6-0 drubbing of Yeseniia Ovcharova/Line Greyling to open play. Nobbs and Goncharov continued their success with a 6-4 advantage. DePaul completed its second doubles sweep of the day with Stula and freshman Eleanor Cochran teaming up to beat Sarah Partida Garcia/Lili Minich, 6-3. With the victory, Cochran earned her first collegiate win.
The scarlet and blue opposed the Spartans once again in its lone singles match of the day. Like, day one, singles play consisted of A and B groups.
Group A started at 10:00 a.m. CT with Smith edging Natalie Stasny 6-3, 6-3. The English native ended the weekend with a combined 6-0 record in both doubles and singles matches.
Cochran followed the performance with a 6-2, 3-6, 11-9 thriller notching her first career singles and doubles win on the same day to highlight group B.
