Creighton’s Offensive Outburst Too Much for DePaul

Allen records 10th 20-point game of the season
OMAHA, Neb. – DePaul women's basketball fell to RV/RV Creighton on the road Saturday afternoon, 92-71. The Bluejays shot 56-percent from the floor including a 42-percent clip from behind the arc to remain unbeaten in BIG EAST play.
DePaul (9-11, 4-3 BIG EAST) led by two after the first quarter, but could not withstand the scoring runs from a potent Creighton offense and its 27 second-period points.
Jorie Allen paced the Blue Demons once again with a game-high 22 points to go along with five assists. The graduate forward finished in double-digits for the 20th time in 20 games this season and recorded her 10th 20-point outing of the season which is the most by any player in the BIG EAST.
Sophomore guard Shakara McCline finished in double-figures for the second-straight game with 12 points in addition to five rebounds and three assists.
Angelina Smith rounded out the Blue Demons in double figures with 11 points, the most in a conference game in her young career. Smith shot 55-percent from the floor while totaling three rebounds and three assists.
Creighton (15-3, 7-0 BIG EAST) had four players finish with 10 or more points including Molly Mogensen and Lauren Jensen who registered 21 and 20, respectively.
How It Happened
Four different Blue Demons netted a field goal to open the frame with the visitors trailing 12-9 at the first media timeout. Allen's and-one gave DePaul the lead before Creighton hit three of their next three field goal attempts to jump back in front, 19-17. McCline dropped in a floater as time expired in the opening period to give the Blue Demons a 23-21.
Creighton opened the second quarter on a 13-3 run to jump in front by eight before four unanswered points from Allen brought DePaul back within four. The Bluejays shot 64-percent in the second stanza and held the Blue Demons without a point for a two-minute stretch to head into the locker room with a 48-35 advantage.
The Blue Demons connected on five of its first eight attempts to begin the second half, but Creighton's ninth three of the game gave them their largest lead on the day, 72-55, after three quarters.
A pair of free throws from Allen trimmed the deficit down to 16 in the fourth quarter but an 11-4 Bluejays spurt put the game away over the next three minutes to seal the victory.
