Women’s Basketball Returns to Wintrust Arena Wednesday

CHICAGO – DePaul women's basketball will make its to Wintrust Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 22 when Xavier visits the South Loop. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

Demon Doings
The Blue Demons will look to snap a two-game skid Wednesday night after falling in a pair of games on the road last week. DePaul remains tied for fourth in the BIG EAST with a record of 4-3 and an overall mark of 9-11.
Graduate forward Jorie Allen has been a force to be reckoned with inside for the Blue Demons, finishing with 10 or more points in all 20 games this season and posting 10 20-point performances. She is averaging 19.1 points per game in all games which is third among all players in the conference and 18.5 in league contests which ranks second. Allen's 126 made free throws this season is third in Division I.
Shakara McCline has come on strong in the last two games, averaging 13.0 points per game in last week's road swing. McCline recorded her first two doubl-figure outings of the season with 14 and 12 points at Villanova and Creighton, respectively.
DePaul's 13.0 offensive rebounds per game leads the BIG EAST while its 36.8 boards is second. The Blue Demons are 6-2 this season when out-rebounding its opponent. Newman's average of 8.0 rebounds is fifth amongst league players. She has four games of 10 or more rebounds this season.
Last Time Out
DePaul dropped a 92-71 decision to BIG EAST unbeaten Creighton on Saturday afternoon in Omaha. Despite leading by a pair of points after the first quarter, the Blue Demons could not withstand the high-powered offense of the Bluejays.
Allen led DePaul in scoring for the 15th time this season with a game-high 22 points while McCline finished in double figures for the second-straight game with 12 points of her own.
The Blue Demons shot a season-best 93-percent from the free-throw line, knocking in 14 of their 15 attempts. Creighton (15-3, 7-0 BIG EAST) finished with 20 assists on the afternoon and shot 56-percent from the field.
Scouting Xavier
Coming off its first BIG EAST victory in 47 games, the Musketeers are 6-12 this season and 1-6 in conference games.
Xavier took down Butler 50-49 in its last outing to snap the skid behind a game-high 16 points from leading scorer Meri Kanerva. The freshman guard is averaging 10.5 points per game to pace the Musketeers while also dishing out a team-best 3.3 assists per contest.
Graduate student Loren Christie has proved to be a strong rim protector for Xavier, leading the league in blocks per game with an average of 1.9. Christie had seven blocks in the first meeting with DePaul.
Billi Chambers is in her second season at the helm of the Musketeer program and welcomed eight newcomers to the program in the offseason.
Series Stuff
The Blue Demons are 28-1 all-time against Xavier and have won the 27 in a row in the series. DePaul's lone loss came in the first meeting between the two programs in January of 1984.
DePaul is 14-0 against the Musketeers in games played in Chicago.
The two teams first met this season on Jan. 2 when the Blue Demons earned a 65-60 victory inside the Cintas Center. Johnson-Matthews had a career-high 24 points, five rebounds and four assists to lead DePaul in her home state. Redshirt-sophomore Haley Walker had a career-best 13 rebounds.
