DePaul Women’s Soccer Head Coach extended through Jan. 2028
CHICAGO – DePaul women's soccer head coach Michele O'Brien has signed a contract extension through January 2028, Vice President and Director of Athletics DeWayne Peevy announced. A cornerstone of the program, O'Brien recently concluded her 16th season with DePaul women's soccer and her fourth as head coach.
Coming off the team's most successful campaign under her leadership, O'Brien guided the Blue Demons to their first BIG EAST Tournament appearance since 2019 and their first semifinal berth since 2016. She also secured her first ranked victory as head coach when DePaul defeated No. 18 Georgetown, 1-0, at Wish Field on Oct. 13, marking the program's first ranked win since 2019.
The 2024 season was a year of significant milestones for O'Brien and the Blue Demons. Three Blue Demons earned All-BIG EAST Third Team honors, while Elena Milam and Briley Hill were named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team.
Since stepping into the head coaching role in 2021, O'Brien has steadily elevated DePaul women's soccer. Her influence on the program, however, spans well beyond her tenure as head coach. First joining the staff in 2009, O'Brien was instrumental in the team's record-breaking 2014 season, which included a program-best 16-1-4 overall record, a BIG EAST Championship, and back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances.
Under O'Brien's leadership, the Blue Demons have cultivated a culture of excellence both on and off the field. Her recruiting acumen has brought standout talent to Wish Field, and her focus on building a culture of family and camaraderie has fostered a strong sense of unity and pride within the team.
The team's dedication to academics has also been evident, with DePaul women's soccer earning back-to-back BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Awards in 2022-23 and 2023-24. The Blue Demons compiled an impressive 3.818 GPA in 2022-23 and followed it up with a 3.764 GPA in 2023-24, further showcasing their commitment to success in the classroom.
A former standout player herself, O'Brien's storied career includes time with the Ireland National Team, Arsenal Ladies Football Club, and collegiate success at Florida International University. She remains committed to bringing that same competitive spirit to her student-athletes at DePaul.
