Blue Demons Emerge Victorious in Reverse Sweep of Seton Hall

Amanda Saeger adds career-high 58 assists
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – DePaul volleyball defeated Seton Hall 3-2 (20-25, 24-26, 25-21, 25-22, 15-13) Saturday evening, improving to 11-6 overall and 4-2 in conference play. The Pirates fall to 6-11, including 0-6 in league matches.
Four Blue Demons recorded double-figure kills, led by Isabela Tavares-Salomon, who posted a match-best 20 kills in just her second career match. Just behind Tavares-Salomon was fellow freshman Kendall Timme, who added 17 kills and a team-best 19 digs for her fourth career double-double. Jade Dudley-Epps also logged 13 kills on .737 hitting, the most efficient match by a Blue Demon this season.
Sophomore Amanda Saeger tallied 58 assists for a new career-high, her second match of the season with 50 or more. The setter also notched ten digs, earning her second double-double of the year.
Abby Cahill and Eva Hurrle also assisted heavily in DePaul's defensive efforts, posting ten and 16 digs, respectively.
"Incredible courage, incredible resilience and an incredible demonstration of blue grit," said head coach Marie Zidek.
"This was a gnarly match where our game did not come easily to us and Seton Hall's game came nearly perfect for them the entire night. Our group kept fighting for each other more than they worried about the score. We also had multiple players come in and provide help for parts of our game that we were struggling to retain, and they provided just enough game to work us back into the match. This group bet on themselves and the program, and they were rewarded tonight."
The Pirates were led by freshman Sadie Reich, who matched Tavares-Salomon with 20 kills.
SET ONE
Five different Blue Demons tallied kills for their first six points of the set, earning an 8-5 lead after two more quick kills from Dudley-Epps. The Pirates responded by taking seven of the next eight points, led by three kills from Madison Loiselle. Even at 18 points after two kills from Morgan Stewart, kills from Loiselle and Rowan Carr pushed Seton Hall ahead by two. The Pirates closed the set, 25-20, with a kill from Asli Subasli.
SET TWO
DePaul jumped in front behind four early kills from Timme, but Seton Hall clawed its way back to tie the set at ten, propelled by a pair of kills from Loiselle. Just when it seemed DePaul might pull away, bolstered by two kills each from Katelynn Oxley and Tavares-Salomon, three late kills from Reich and one from Loiselle allowed the Pirates to even the frame at 23 points apiece. Seton Hall went on a 3-0 run to take the set in extra points, 26-24.
SET THREE
Four different Blue Demons notched points early, pushing DePaul in front, 9-5. A pair of kills from Hanna Labanowska, along with two Blue Demon errors, tied the frame at 11 points. Still equal at 19, kills from Dudley-Epps and Timme, along with an ace from Stewart, earned DePaul the advantage they needed. One final kill from Timme won the Blue Demons the third set, 25-21.
SET FOUR
DePaul got out of the gate quickly, taking a 7-2 edge behind four Seton Hall errors and three kills. A 7-0 scoring run, fueled by three DePaul errors, brought Seton Hall within a point in the middle of the set, but three kills from Dudley-Epps allowed the Blue Demons to retain a narrow advantage. Two more late kills from Tavares-Salomon earned DePaul the frame, 25-22.
SET FIVE
Five early kills gave the Pirates a 7-2 advantage to begin the set. Down by six points, the Blue Demons put together an impressive 7-0 run to take the lead, bolstered by two kills from Tavares Salomon and two aces from Stewart. For the second match in a row, a Hurrle ace concluded the action, winning DePaul the deciding frame, 15-13.
