CHICAGO – A strong second half for DePaul men's basketball wasn't enough to overcome Buffalo, Tuesday night, at Wintrust Arena as the Blue Demons (2-1) dropped their first contest of the season, 66-53.
NJ Benson had a team-high 11 points in addition to eight rebounds while Brandon Maclin was close to a double-digit performance with nine points and five rebounds. Layden Blocker had a team-high five assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Buffalo (3-0) kept DePaul quite offensively in the first half, building out to an 18-point first half lead. The Blue Demons came out strong in the second half cutting the Buffalo lead to 12. A 23-7 DePaul run was then ignited behind strong three-point efforts from Smith, McClure and Banks. With a two-point, 46-44, lead Bufalo connected on a second chance three-pointer. NJ Benson then notched four points on a layup and trip to the free throw line, keeping the game one-possession. The strong second-half defensive effort wasn't enough as Buffalo hit an 8-1 run that would pull them out of reach.
