DePaul Overwhelms Grambling in WellNow Blue Demon Classic Opener

Novik and Newman Power Blue Demons past Tigers 75-39
CHICAGO – DePaul women's basketball returned to the win column with a dominant 75-39 victory over Grambling on Monday night at Wintrust Arena. The Blue Demons performed well on both sides of the ball, assisting on 24 of 27 made field goals while holding their opponent to under 40 points for the first time since Dec. 28, 2023.
Kate Novik finished in double figures for the fifth-straight game to open the season with a team-best 17 points on an efficient 6-of-8 shooting. Novik added six rebounds, two assists and two blocks on the night. In her season debut, Meg Newman nabbed her first double-double of the season, scoring 13 points and grabbing ten rebounds off the bench. Devin Hagemann made her first career start adding an impressive six points and seven assists.
DePaul made the most of its transition game, scoring 26 points off of 23 Grambling turnovers. The Blue Demons dominated in the paint with a 37-19 edge over the Tigers.
Arianna Mosley led Grambling with six points, while Jamirica Roberson scored five points and secured a team-high seven rebounds.
How It Happened
DePaul opened the game on a 10-0 run forcing ten turnovers behind makes from five different Blue Demons. The Blue Demons held the Tigers scoreless for the first six and a half minutes and closed the quarter in front 15-4.
Novik scored DePaul's first ten points during a 10-4 run to begin the second period. The Blue Demons' defense held Grambling scoreless for four minutes while Meg Newman scored five-straight for DePaul to close the half with a 34-14 advantage.
Alayna West opened the second half with two layups before both sides traded six-straight made field goals. Redshirt-freshman Ally Timm alongside Novik spearheaded the Blue Demons' response with a pair of three-pointers and transition finishes en route to a 14-0 scoring run to jump ahead 59-36 with a quarter to play.
Newman supplied early offense for DePaul in the fourth, providing two layups to combat a shooting barrage by Grambling State, in the midst of a 11-8 run favoring the Tigers. The Blue Demons proceeded to score seven unanswered, with Newman's tally ballooning to 13 on the game, and 8 for the quarter.

DePaul will turnaround and face off against Northern Colorado in game two of the WellNow Blue Demon Classic on Saturday, Nov. 22. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
