CHICAGO – DePaul women's basketball dropped a 90–46 decision to 25th-ranked Michigan State Sunday afternoon at Wintrust Arena. After a back-and-forth opening quarter, the Blue Demons struggled to generate consistent offense as the nation's sixth-ranked offense pulled away over the final three quarters.
Junior guard Shakara McCline led DePaul with a team-high 12 points.
DePaul (3-9, 0-2 BIG EAST) was held under 35 percent shooting from the field for the fourth time this season.
Michigan State (9-1, 0-1 Big Ten) placed five players in double figures, led by Kennedy Blair's game-high 16 points.
How It Happened
DePaul jumped out to an early 4–0 lead, but Michigan State answered with a 6–0 run to take a 6–4 advantage midway through the first quarter. A 15–2 Spartans run later in the period pushed the margin to 21–13 at the end of the first.
The Blue Demons continued to struggle offensively in the second quarter, scoring just three points in the first six minutes. McCline provided a spark, knocking down two three-pointers to cut the deficit to 13, but a Michigan State half-court buzzer-beater sent the Spartans into halftime with a 46–24 lead.
DePaul shot just 20 percent from the field in the third quarter as Michigan State extended its advantage to 66–31 heading into the final 10 minutes.
The Spartans outscored DePaul 24–15 in the fourth quarter to improve to 9–1 on the season.
