Tipoff from Carnesecca Arena set for 1 p.m. CT
QUEENS, N.Y. – DePaul women's basketball turns the page to a new calendar year Thursday, taking on St. John's at 1 p.m. CT inside Carnesecca Arena. Maria Marino and Lauren DeFalco will have the call on ESPN+.
Demon Doings
DePaul looks to open the New Year strong Thursday, seeking its first BIG EAST victory and first road win of the 2025–26 campaign. The Blue Demons enter the matchup having dropped nine of their last 10 outings and are coming off an 81-48 setback against Villanova Monday afternoon at Wintrust Arena.
Despite recent results, DePaul has shown positive growth in several areas, including increased bench production. In December, the Blue Demons totaled 222 points from their reserves, an increase of 13 points per game in bench scoring from November. On the glass, DePaul continues to be one of the league's strongest offensive rebounding teams, ranking second in the BIG EAST with 13.9 offensive rebounds per game and recording five games with 15 or more second-chance points this season.
Junior guard Kate Novik continues to anchor the lineup, leading the team in scoring (12.1 ppg), rebounding (6.8 rpg) and assists (3.3 apg). Against Villanova, Novik paced DePaul with a team-high 14 points for her 10th double-figure performance of the season. Freshman guard Gina Davorija added a strong performance with career highs of 10 points and three steals in 29 minutes of action.
Scouting St. John's
The Red Storm are 12-3 on the season and 2-2 in BIG EAST play after a 73-66 win at Marquette Monday night. Liberty transfer Brooke Moore has made an immediate impact, averaging a team-best 13.9 points per game and shooting at a 59-percent clip, a figure that ranks top-25 nationally. As a team, the Johnnies are second in the BIG EAST in field-goal percentage, converting 47-percent of their attempts. Joe Tartamella is in his 14th season at the helm of the St. John's program.
Series Stuff
The Blue Demons hold a 27-8 edge in the all-time series with the Red Storm including a 12-3 mark in games played in Queens. DePaul swept the season series a year ago in a pair of highly contested matchups including a one-point overtime victory on the final day of the regular season. The last three meetings between the two sides have an average margin of victory of 4.5 points with two of the three games requiring overtime.
On This Day
The Blue Demons are playing on January 1 for just the fourth time in 52 seasons as a varsity program and first time since 2014. DePaul is 2-1 in previous matchups on New Years Day with Thursday's game being the first true road game on the date.
Up Next
The Blue Demons return home to play their third game in six days when Providence visits Wintrust Arena Sunday, Jan. 4. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. with streaming on ESPN+.
