Blue Demons stalled in Friday night BIG EAST battle
CHICAGO – In its return to XS Tennis Village, DePaul men's tennis fell to BIG EAST foe Creighton (8-6) Friday night. With the victory, the Bluejays have clinched three consecutive dual victories over the Blue Demons after previously falling in ten straight matches to DePaul.
The Blue Demons (9-8, 1-1 BIG EAST) dropped their first conference match of the season with Friday night's result but look to bounce back Sunday against another BIG EAST rival in Georgetown.
Starting out of the gates hot, the Bluejays made quick work at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to steal an early 1-0 lead they would not relinquish for the remainder of the match.
Creighton continued its dominance with three straight-set victories, clinching the match at No. 1.
Junior Pablo Torres Almeida provided a bright spot, earning his eighth singles win of the year at No. 3, 3-6, 6-4, 10-5. What followed were two third-set thrillers from Andy Hadziabdic (No. 4) and Tobias Leitner (No. 6), both ultimately ending in Creighton's favor, with the final scorecard reading 6-1 in favor of the Bluejays.
