DePaul readies for conference showdown on Senior Day
CHICAGO – DePaul men's tennis makes its annual return to Lincoln Park on Friday, March 21, for a test against Villanova (3-11) at 8 p.m. CT. Seniors Jona Gitschel, Matteo Iaquinto, and Sven Moser will be honored with a pre-match ceremony at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness. Admission is free for all fans, with live stats available here.
DePaul (10-8, 2-1 BIG EAST) enters the match coming off a dominant 7-0 win over Georgetown on Sunday, highlighted by impressive comebacks in doubles, a ranked victory by Iaquinto at No. 1, and the longest tiebreaker win in recent memory (14-12) by Pablo Torres Almeida. The shutout marked the team's third at home this season, the first time the Blue Demons have accomplished that feat since 2017. The last time they did so, they recorded four sweep victories against Chicago State, Illinois State, South Dakota State, and Cleveland State. It also marks the first time DePaul has posted three shutouts in one season at XS Tennis Village since making it their home in 2021.
With the Blue Demons' 10th victory of the season, head coach Matt Brothers notched his 15th double-digit win season in 18 years at the helm and reached his 225th career victory.
Marko Milosavljevic and Torres Almeida lead the team with nine dual victories each and will look to reach double digits on Friday night.
