
Strong Day One Puts Blue Demons in Second Place

DePaul golf scores season-low rounds
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – It was a season-best performance on Monday for DePaul golf at the Don Benbow Butler Invitational, as the team worked into a second place standing through 36 holes. In the second round, the Blue Demons registered a 281, marking a season-best and the best round of 18 for the team since Sept. 26, 2023.
Four Blue Demons sit in the top-25 through day one, including Dominic Lucchesi who led the way with a combined 138 (-2). Lucchesi sits in a tie for fourth place, followed by Pablo Riveiro in 14th with a score of 141 (+1). Rohan Gopaldas and Ryder Henares rounded out DePaul's scorers for Monday, both scoring a 142 (+2) as the pair is tied in 21st. Gopaldas tied a season-best round of 18 in the second round with a score of 70 (-1). Alex Vekich also had his best performance of the season, golfing a 73 (+1) in the first round.
DePaul also had three players compete Monday as individuals – Hank Schaefer, Billy Gnesier and Paul Costello. Schaefer sits in 30th overall with a 144 (+4) after recording a season-best round of 18 with a 70 (-1) in the second-round.
DePaul and the rest of the field will conclude the tournament with a final round of 18 on Tuesday, beginning at 8 a.m. CT.
