
DePaul Picks Up Second-Straight Win to Close Out Regular-Season

CHICAGO – DePaul men's basketball closed out its regular season with its second-straight win, defeating Georgetown, 83-77, Saturday at Wintrust Arena. The Blue Demons had a total of five scorers in double-digits as the team shot over 50 percent from three.
On the night where DePaul recognized its three seniors, Isaiah Rivera tallied a 21-point, nine rebound and six assist performance to push the Blue Demons to victory. CJ Gunn and Layden Blocker followed with 17 and 16, each, as JJ Traynor and Troy D'Amico closed out the double-digit scorers. David Thomas and Rivera led DePaul with six assists each.
HOW IT HAPPENED
DePaul (13-18, 4-16 BIG EAST) opened the game making its first six three-point attempts for a 22-19 lead. The first half featured eight ties and six lead changes before DePaul gave itself distance to end the period with a 7-2 run for a 38-34 lead.
The Blue Demons offensive spurt continued to open the second period with a quick pair of baskets by Traynor and D'Amico for a 43-34 lead. Georgetown dwindled the lead down to two, 46-44, before Traynor knocked in a three after a timeout to keep it a multiple-possession game. Rivera hit a three-pointer, powering a 15-7 stretch that gave DePaul its largest lead of the game, 70-60.
With five minutes left to play, Georgetown traded free throws with the Blue Demons before Jayden Epps drilled a three-pointer, 74-69. The Hoyas forced a jump ball and made a four-point play to cut the Blue Demons lead to three, 76-73. With a minute left to play, D'Amico grabbed a crucial offensive rebound and laid it in before setting up free throw opportunities from Gunn. DePaul ended the game by forcing a Georgetown turnover and breaking down the Hoyas defense for a fastbreak basket, clinching the team's second-straight win.
