DePaul moves to 9-6 on season
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – DePaul men's tennis jumped back into the win column with a convincing 6-1 victory over Davidson on Saturday, moving three matches above .500 on the season. Redshirt-sophomore Elias Anwar made an impactful return to action after more than a year away, making his presence felt by securing the Blue Demons' first court of the day in doubles.
DePaul (9-6, 1-0 BIG EAST) opened its weekend in Charlotte, N.C., with a commanding win, marking its fifth victory in the last six outings. The Blue Demons' nine victories tie for the most through 15 matches since the memorable 2021 dual season, when DePaul clinched its first-ever BIG EAST title and NCAA Tournament berth.
The Blue Demons quickly established control in doubles action, with Thomas Giles and Anwar teaming up at No. 3 for an impressive 6-2 win. At the No. 2 spot, Jona Gitschel and Marko Milosavljevic overwhelmed their Davidson opponents by an identical 6-2 margin, earning the Blue Demons the opening point of the match.
Singles play saw continued dominance from DePaul, led by freshman Andy Hadziabdic, who notched his sixth-straight singles victory in a 6-2, 6-2 match at No. 3 to extend the Scarlet and Blue advantage. Marko Milosavljevic closely followed suit at No. 2 with a strong 6-2, 6-3 win, recording a team-high eighth dual singles victory this season.
After dropping court No. 4, DePaul did not concede another set. Giles secured the match-clinching point at No. 5 with a resilient 6-2, 7-5 result. Victories from Quang Vinh Nguyen (No. 6) and Torres Almeida (No. 1) capped off a convincing road performance for the 'Band of Brothers.'
