DePaul’s Quick Start Falls Short Against UNC Charlotte

Blue Demons downed 6-1 on Sunday
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – One day removed from defeating Davidson 6-1 in Charlotte, N.C., the Blue Demons (9-7, 1-0 BIG EAST) faced a tough challenge against UNC Charlotte (7-5), ultimately falling in a 6-1 decision on Sunday afternoon at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.
The Blue Demons grabbed an early lead with two strong victories in doubles. At No. 2, the duo of Jona Gitschel and Marko Milosavljevic defeated their opponents, 6-3. Elias Anwar and Thomas Giles then clinched DePaul's first and only point of the day with a 6-4 win on court No. 3.
Singles painted a different story, as UNC Charlotte defeated DePaul in straight sets on five of the six courts. Marko Milosavljevic (No. 2) and Quang Vinh Nguyen (No. 6) each extended their second sets to seven-point tiebreakers but were unable to prevail.
At the No. 3 spot, Andy Hadziabdic dominated his second set, 6-0, forcing a third set. Like Milosavljevic and Nguyen, Hadziabdic battled into a tiebreaker but ultimately fell 7-6(5), sealing the Blue Demons' 6-1 defeat.
