Pizzotti Names Ty Evans Associate Head Coach

CHICAGO – DePaul women's basketball head coach Jill M. Pizzotti announced the addition of Ty Evans as associate head coach on Monday afternoon. Evans lands in Chicago after spending a season as an assistant coach at Syracuse and brings with him over 20 years of coaching experience at the Division I level.

"Ty brings a wealth of experience and strong Midwest roots, and I'm truly excited to work with him again," Pizzotti said. "His extensive background in the BIG EAST and at the power conference level will be a tremendous asset to our program. In addition to his time as a head coach at Tennessee State, Ty is a well-established national recruiter with a true passion for the game and a deep commitment to individual skill development. We're looking forward to the energy, experience, and knowledge he'll bring in a collaborative and impactful way."

Evans and Pizzotti reunite after sharing the sidelines at Saint Louis for three seasons between 2001-2005. After his time with the Billikens, Evans was an assistant coach at Georgetown for a pair of seasons before departing to take the same role at the University of Alabama in 2007. Evans was elevated to associate head coach with the Crimson Tide in 2010 where the program recorded its first winning season and earned its first postseason bid in nearly a decade.

"It's hard to articulate the immense happiness, joy, and excitement that I feel joining the DePaul women's basketball staff and reuniting with Coach "JP", as we embark on adding to the rich basketball legacy and tradition of women's basketball that was started by the legendary Doug Bruno," said Evans. "This is truly a 'full circle' moment for me reuniting with the person (Coach JP) who trusted her instincts and took a blind leap of faith on me when giving me my first college coaching opportunity when I had zero college coaching experience. I could never repay her for what she did for my career, but I look forward to thanking her everyday by exhibiting a 'servant leadership' mentality and an unmatched work ethic that will culminate into championships."

In 2012, Evans moved to The Plains to become an assistant coach at Auburn where he quickly rose to take on additional responsibility including recruiting coordinator and later associate head coach in 2016. The Tigers earned five postseason bids in his eight seasons on staff including a trio of NCAA Tournament Appearances in 2016, 2017 and 2019. Additionally, Evans aided in signing five top-25 recruiting classes during his tenure.

Evans was named the Head Coach at Tennessee State in 2020 where he became the first coach to lead the program to three-consecutive Ohio Valley Conference Tournaments since 2013-15. He coached seven players to All-OVC honors in his final three seasons which marked the most in a three-year span since 1997-99.

In his lone season at Syracuse, Evans had an immediate impact particularly on the defensive end of the floor leading the Orange to force the most turnovers per game (16.9) in the program's last seven seasons. His post unit averaged 4.4 blocks per game which ranked 34th nationally and fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

A 1995 graduate of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Evans was a two-time All-American, the 1994 WSUC Player of the Year and led the Warhawks to three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances. He went on to play professionally in Norway and Taiwan.
