Blue Demons Come from Behind to Take Down Xavier

Leitner clinches the match with three-set victory at No. 5
CINCINNATI, Ohio – DePaul men's tennis salvaged the weekend road trip with a 4-3 come from behind victory over Xavier on Sunday afternoon at Eastern Hills Tennis Club. The Blue Demons trailed the entire match before resiliency paid off to improve to 13-10 on the season and 4-2 in BIG EAST action.
The Musketeers got off to an early 1-0 advantage with doubles victories at No. 1 and No. 3.
DePaul responded as freshman Andy Hadziabdic picked up a dominant straight-set win on court three over Alexander Kotarski, 6-0, 6-2 to even the score 1-1.
Xavier claimed courts No. 2 and No. 6 to jump back in front 3-1 before Tom Giles sparked the Blue Demons run with a 6-2, 7-6(4) victory at No. 4.
Matteo Antonio Iaquinto left no doubt with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 defeat of Ryan Cahill at No. 1 to set the table for a clincher on court 5.
With the match knotted 3-3, freshman Tobias Leitner battled back after dropping the first set to deliver the Blue Demons the win with a 5-7, 7-5, 6-0 decision to seal the deal.
The Blue Demons will await their seeding for the 2025 BIG EAST Championship which takes place April 18-20 in Cayce, S.C.
