Alex Bernstein Strikes Gold on Day One of BIG EAST Championships

Senior thrower secures men’s hammer throw title
STORRS, Conn. – DePaul track and field wasted no time making an impact at the 2025 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships, as Alex Bernstein launched his way to gold in the men's hammer throw Thursday evening at the Sherman Family Sports Complex.
Bernstein's 66.02m toss earned him his second straight BIG EAST outdoor title in the event and marked his fourth overall conference crown. The junior leads the BIG EAST and currently sits among the top-50 in the NCAA East Region.
In the same event, Thomas Goggin secured fourth place with a season-best 50.84m to add five points to DePaul's total. Sergio Ayala also contributed with a personal-record 44.85m for seventh, while Jaiden Gary placed 11th.
On the women's side, Olivia Austin paced the Blue Demons with a personal-best 48.46m in the hammer throw to finish fifth and secure four points. Senior Jessica Beckman followed in sixth with a PR of 48.15m. Freshman Laila Richardson added an 11th-place mark of 42.45m, and Kash Allen threw a season-best 41.09m to finish 13th.
In the final event of the evening, Mason Krieg clocked 30:15.60 in the men's 10,000m to take sixth and grab three points for DePaul. Griffin Lehnhardt closed out the night with a 14th-place finish in 32:29.23.
