Men’s Soccer Welcomes Oakland to Wish Field Sunday

Blue Demons face second-straight Horizon League opponent
CHICAGO – DePaul men's soccer will continue its six-match homestand to start the season on Sunday when Oakland travels to Lincoln Park for a non-conference tilt. The two sides will kick off at 12:30 p.m. with live coverage found on ESPN+.

Demon Doings
DePaul looks for its first win of the season on Sunday after earning a 3-3 draw against Purdue Fort Wayne in the campaign opener Thursday afternoon. After a slow start, the Blue Demons grabbed a two-goal lead in the second half before conceding a pair of tallies and settling for a point at home.
Christian Baumgartner opened the scoring for the Blue Demons in the first half before sophomore Luca Iaccino and junior Noeh Hernandez converted on penalty kick opportunities early in the second stanza. With the tally, Hernandez, the BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, moved to 17th all-time in career points for DePaul with 39.
The Blue Demons held a slight 7-6 edge over Purdue Fort Wayne in corner kick opportunities while the two sides each got off seven shots on goal. The Mastodons led in total shots with 18 compared to DePaul's 14.
Five players made their DePaul debut on Thursday afternoon including Tyler Flowers, Joon Han, Nathan Laird, Sam Tinoco and Eli Wachs. Additionally, Flowers, Laird and Tinoco earned the first minutes of their collegiate careers.
In Mark Plotkin's tenure, the Blue Demons are 6-7-5 in matches following a draw.
Scouting Oakland
The Golden Grizzlies are 0-1 on the young season after dropping a 3-2 decision at Loyola Chicago on opening night. After a combined four goals in the first 45 minutes, the Ramblers put home the game-winner in the 62nd minute.
Oakland was selected to finish second in the Horizon League Preseason Coaches' Poll and welcomes back 22 returns from 2024 including the program's leading scorer, Abdul Al-Rashed. Last season, Oakland posted a 9-6-2 overall record and a 6-1-2 mark in league action to advance to the conference tournament championship for the second-straight year. Paul Doroh is in his second season leading the Oakland program.
Series Stuff
DePaul leads the all-time series with Oakland, 5-1 and have won the last four meetings.
A season ago, the Blue Demons claimed a 3-1 victory on Oct. 8 at Wish Field. Keagan Pace, Noeh Hernandez and Sam Moore all netted goals for DePaul in the win.
After Thursday's draw with Purdue Fort Wayne, DePaul is 18-20-3 all-time in matches against current Horizon League members.
