Blue Demons in 12th After Day One at Highlands Invitational

Freshmen stand out in collegiate debuts
WESTCHESTER, ILL. – DePaul golf stands in 12th, with teams still out on the round, through the first day of competition at the Highlands Invitational. The remaining teams will tee off Tuesday morning at 7 a.m. to conclude round two, with a shotgun start for round 3 to follow. Austin Scott tees off first for the Blue Demons at 7:20 a.m.
"These first two rounds at Chicago Highlands gave us exactly what we needed – elevated competition and a chance to test ourselves under pressure," said head coach Ryan Jamison. "We talk all the time about being comfortable being uncomfortable, and this course demanded that. Around the greens, we need to be sharper – no question. That's an area where we will have to grow fast as a group. This season is going to come with its ups and downs, but if we stay committed to the process, we will take massive strides as a team."
In their collegiate debuts, it was a pair of freshmen, North Cherry and Leif Brede, to lead DePaul through the first two rounds. Cherry posted 149 (+5) on the day to sit in a tie for 33rd, including a three-stroke improvement in round two for a 73 (+1). Breede also improved in his second round of 18 with a 74 (+2), bringing his placement to 39th. Dominc Lucchesi led DePaul with a 72 (E) in the first round, ultimately ending the day +7 to round out a trio of Blue Demons in the top-50.
Following the conclusion of the Highlands Invitational, DePaul will prepare for the Badger Invitational, Sept. 22-23 in Madison, Wis.
