DePaul Falls on the Road to #4 UConn

Blue Demons led by 16 points from Layden Blocker
HARTFORD, CONN. – DePaul men's basketball dropped a Saturday afternoon road contest, 72-60, to fourth-ranked UConn in Hartford. The Blue Demons were led offensively with 16 points from Layden Blocker, who tacked on five rebounds and a pair of assists. Brandon Maclin finished with 12 points, followed by 11 from CJ Gunn.
HOW IT HAPPENED
DePaul (10-7, 2-4 BIG EAST) opened its scoring early with a three-pointer from Blocker, before UConn (16-1, 6-0 BIG EAST) had six unanswered points. After the Huskies built a 21-11 advantage, the Blue Demons found a spark off an offensive rebound from Théo Pierre-Justin. Pierre-Justin finished the possession with a three-pointer, kick starting a stretch of four-straight made field goals. A second three by him pulled DePaul within four, 25-21. However, UConn responded with a 10-2 run to end the half.
The Huskies defensive pressure was successful to open the second half as UConn built a 48-30 lead off a strong performance in the paint. DePaul tried to chip away with their own driving layups by Maclin and Smith. The Blue Demons shot 56.5 percent in the second half but couldn't come up with enough stops on the defensive end to pull any closer.
