Blue Demons look to continue success at home
CHICAGO – DePaul men's basketball returns home, Friday, Jan. 16 as the Blue Demons welcome Marquette to Wintrust Arena. The Friday evening matchup tips off at 7:30 p.m. on FS1 with Trent Rush and LaPhonso Ellis on the call. Zach Zaidman and Dave Corzine will have the DePaul radio broadcast on SiriusXM/DePaul Blue Demons App.
Friday's game serves as DePaul's annual throwback and features the debut of new throwback uniforms, inspired by famous teams of the late '70s and early '80s. The first 1000 fans to Friday's game will receive an exclusive throwback koozie, with replica jerseys available for the first 600 students.
LAST TIME OUT
DePaul (10-7, 2-4 BIG EAST) faced top-five ranked UConn for the second time in three weeks, ultimately falling to the Huskies, 72-60, in Hartford. Layden Blocker led the Blue Demons with a game-high 16 points, in addition to five rebounds and two assists. Brandon Maclin registered his third-straight game with 10 or more points, finishing with 12, on 50 percent shooting.
The Blue Demons defense moved to fourth in the BIG EAST, holding conference opponents to 70.17 points per game. DePaul's field goal percentage defense in conference play is second behind only No. 4 UConn.
THE SERIES
Friday marks the 137th all-time meeting between the two programs, dating back to 1918. Marquette leads the all-time series, 80-56, while games played in Chicago are a much closer 35-34. The Blue Demons are seeking their first win in the series since 2022.
SCOUTING MARQUETTE
Marquette (6-12, 1-6 BIG EAST) comes to Wintrust Arena seeking its first road win of the season. The Golden Eagles dropped a pair of contests last week against Villanova and St. John's, following the teams first BIG EAST win of the year over Xavier.
Chase Ross is the team's leading scorer with 15.8 points per game, while also contributing 4.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.2 steals per game. Ben Gold is averaging a team-best 6.4 rebounds, helping the Golden Eagles rank third in the BIG EAST with 12.72 offensive boards per game. Both DePaul and Marquette rank top-5 in the league in turnovers forced per game, while MU is among the conference leaders in steals per game and fastbreak points.
