DePaul Rallies Late to Take Down Georgetown 80-77

Novik finishes with 19 points and 10 assists to lead DePaul
CHICAGO – DePaul women's basketball used a 27-point fourth quarter to take down Georgetown, 80-77, at Wintrust Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Demons erased an eight-point deficit in the final period and weathered five lead changes in the final two minutes to pick up their first BIG EAST win of the season.
Kate Novik led the offensive effort for the Blue Demons, recording her 12th double-digit scoring performance of the season with a team-high 19 points to go along with 10 assists. Novik's points-assists double-double marked the first for a DePaul player since 2022.
Sophomore guard Natiah Nelson added 14 points, five rebounds and three steals for her seventh game in double figures this season. Nelson scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half. Aizhanique Mayo, in her first game back since Nov. 30, totaled 11 points, including eight in the fourth quarter.
The Blue Demons shot a season-best 52 percent from the field and dished out 24 assists, the most in a BIG EAST game this season.
Destiny Agubuta netted a game-high 24 points to lead four Hoyas in double figures.
How It Happened
The Hoyas shot 60 percent in the first quarter, connecting on nine of their 15 attempts to take a 22-18 lead after 10 minutes. Aizhanique Mayo, seeing her first action since Nov. 30, hit a three-pointer as time expired to make it a two-possession game.
Georgetown (9-7, 2-5 BIG EAST) extended its lead to 11 behind a 7-0 run to open the second quarter. The Blue Demons responded with an 11-0 spurt of their own over a three-minute stretch to tie the game at 34. The Hoyas connected on two of the final three field goals of the half to take a 39-36 lead into the break.
DePaul (4-14, 1-6 BIG EAST) shot 56-percent from the field in the first half, including 4-for-6 from three-point range.
Davorija's three-pointer one minute into the third quarter gave DePaul its first lead since early in the opening period. Georgetown answered with a 12-2 run to regain control before Nelson converted back-to-back baskets to make it a 61-53 game entering the fourth quarter.
After trailing by as many as eight in the fourth quarter, Hagemann's second-chance three tied the game at 71 with 1:57 remaining. After the Hoyas briefly moved back in front, Mayo's third three-pointer of the game gave DePaul a one-point lead with 51 seconds to play. Newman's layup with 22 seconds remaining gave DePaul the lead for good, sealing the Blue Demons' first BIG EAST win of the season.
