Demon Doings
DePaul enters Tuesday's tilt at 4–14 overall and 1–6 in BIG EAST play after picking up its first league victory of the season Saturday afternoon with an 80–77 win over Georgetown. The Blue Demons showed resilience, trailing by as many as 10 points in the second half before rallying late behind timely offensive contributions from across the lineup. Shots were falling from all areas of the floor as DePaul shot a season-best 52 percent from the field and dished out a league-high 24 assists, its most in BIG EAST play this season.
Junior guard Kate Novik posted a team-high 19 points and 10 assists against the Hoyas, earning her second BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll mention of the season. Novik's points-assists double-double marked the first by a DePaul player since 2022. The Grodno, Belarus native leads the Blue Demons in scoring (12.2 ppg), rebounding (6.4 rpg), and assists (3.5 apg).
Natiah Nelson and Aizhanique Mayo also finished in double figures versus Georgetown, providing a late offensive spark. Nelson totaled 14 points, 12 coming in the second half, while shooting 77 percent from the floor. Mayo, appearing in her first game action since Nov. 26, scored 11 points on 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc, including eight points in the final quarter.
DePaul has been strong on the glass of late, outrebounding each of its last three opponents, including a 28–21 edge against Georgetown. The Blue Demons limited the Hoyas, the league leader in offensive rebounds, to a season-low seven offensive boards. DePaul's 13.8 offensive rebounds per game rank third in the BIG EAST.
The Blue Demons' depth has also been a key factor as reserves are averaging 24.1 points per game, ranking third in the conference. DePaul holds a +30 scoring margin in bench points this season.
Scouting Xavier
The Musketeers are 9-7 on the season and 2-5 in conference play after falling to Villanova on the road 67-50 Thursday evening.
