McArdle, Phillips Highlight Day One in Pentathlon

Blue Demons set the tone on day one
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – DePaul track and field opened competition at the Meyo Invitational on Friday at the Loftus Sports Center with a historic Day One performance, highlighted by a record-breaking showing in the women's pentathlon and an event victory in the women's long jump.
Ashleigh McArdle and Aubrey Phillips each surpassed the previous DePaul school record of 3,151 points set by Sydnee Matthew in 2017 during the pentathlon competition. McArdle ultimately established the new school standard, finishing third overall with a total of 3,245 points, while Phillips placed fourth with 3,181 points after also eclipsing the former mark earlier in the day.
Phillips opened the pentathlon with a third-place finish in the 60m hurdles (9.42), while McArdle followed in fifth (9.55). The duo continued in the high jump, where both cleared 1.56m, with Phillips placing second and McArdle third. In the shot put, Phillips claimed the event with a winning mark of 12.47m, while McArdle added a third-place throw of 11.40m. McArdle then recorded a fifth-place finish in the long jump (5.02m), before the day concluded in the 800m, where McArdle placed third (2:40.09) and Phillips finished sixth (2:46.86) to secure their final totals.
Outside of the pentathlon, Jaiah Hopf turned in DePaul's top field performance of the day, winning the women's long jump with a season-best mark of 6.07m. Sergio Ayala also posted a personal-best effort in the field events, recording a throw of 15.39m in the shot put.
On the track, Aisha Kazeem posted a personal-best 8.66 to place first in the women's 60m hurdles qualifying round. In middle-distance action, Lauren Pacsi recorded a personal-best 1:35.46 in the 600m. Jack Ward paced the Blue Demons in the men's 600m with an eighth-place finish in 1:20.28, while Owen Larkins followed with a personal-best time of 1:21.64.
