Blue Demons and Wildcats meet at 1 p.m. CT inside Finneran Pavilion
VILLANOVA, Pa. – DePaul women's basketball closes out the month of January with its second consecutive road game when it visits Villanova Saturday afternoon. Tipoff from Finneran Pavilion is set for 1 p.m. CT, with the action streamed live on ESPN+.
Demon Doings
DePaul is 5-18 on the season and 2-10 in BIG EAST play after a roaring comeback fell just short in a 74-73 setback at Marquette Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Demons hit the road once again looking for their first victory away from home this season.
Junior guard Kate Novik continues to lead the scoring effort for DePaul, averaging a team-high 12.3 points per game, while several Blue Demons have emerged as offensive options during the stretch run of January.
Against the Golden Eagles, Wisconsin natives Ally Timm and Alayna West accounted for 40 of the team's 73 points. Timm recorded 18 of her 21 points in the second half to ignite the comeback. The redshirt freshman has finished in double figures in four of the last five games and is shooting 42 percent (17-of-40) from behind the arc during that span. Timm ranks third in the conference in total three-pointers (48) and fourth in three-point percentage (.348).
West added a career-high 19 points versus Marquette, along with three steals, two rebounds and two assists. Her defensive activity has been consistent all season, posting nine games with three or more steals. West's 2.26 steals per game ranks sixth among all BIG EAST players.
The Blue Demons have consistently seen increased bench production throughout the season, as their 26 points per game from reserves ranks second in the conference and top 35 nationally. In January, DePaul's bench is outscoring opponents' reserves by an average of 14.8 points.
Scouting Villanova
Villanova enters Saturday's matchup with a 16-5 overall record and a 9-3 mark in BIG EAST play, coming off an 83-68 win over Butler. The Wildcats are led offensively by junior guard Jasmine Bascoe (17.1 ppg), while Brynn McCurry adds 12.0 points per contest. As a team, Villanova shares the ball well, ranking second in the BIG EAST and 10th nationally with 18.8 assists per game. Denise Dillon is in her sixth season as head coach.
