Blue Demons post 7-0 victory at XS Tennis Village

CHICAGO – DePaul women's tennis delivered a complete performance Saturday evening, shutting out Creighton, 7-0, at XS Tennis Village to open BIG EAST play. The Blue Demons secured the doubles point before sweeping all six singles courts to earn their first conference victory at home this season.

"This match was a great example of what this team is capable of," said head coach Marisa Arce. "When everyone shows up and believes in themselves, we become a really hard team to beat and can contend for a BIG EAST championship."

In doubles action, DePaul claimed the opening point with a pair of decisive wins. The top pairing of Clara Nilsson and Hannah Smith earned a 6-1 victory, while Yasemin Pehlivan and Sasha Stula followed with a matching result at No. 2 to lock up the point. At No. 3, Roberta Sechi and Helin Alvarez were ahead 5-1 when play was halted.

The Blue Demons continued to build separation in singles play. Hannah Smith delivered a dominant 6-0, 6-0 decision at No. 2, while Yasemin Pehlivan followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4.

The team victory was sealed at the top spot, where Sasha Stula earned a 6-3, 6-2 result. A three-set battle unfolded at No. 3, as Clara Nilsson regrouped after dropping the second set to pull out a 6-1, 4-6, 10-8 win. Straight-set results from the bottom of the lineup followed, with Helin Alvarez posting a 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 6 before Roberta Sechi closed the decision with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 5 to complete the sweep.
