Four Blue Demons hit double-digit kills, Hoyas rally for 3-2 win in Chicago
CHICAGO – DePaul volleyball took the first set and rallied to force a fifth, but Georgetown scored the final seven points of the decisive set to win 3-2 (25-18, 18-25, 22-25, 25-21, 8-15) at McGrath-Phillips Arena Saturday night. The Blue Demons fall to 4-2 in BIG EAST play and 12-5 overall, while the Hoyas improve to 3-3 in conference play and 11-6 overall.
"Incredible battle," said head coach Marie Zidek. "We willed our way to five sets after struggling to maintain in sets two and three as they made some adjustments on us. Georgetown's defense was outstanding, and they extended play to get more arms on the ball when it mattered most in the fifth. I'm proud of how our team kept going for it and reached for another gear. A few small defensive adjustments eluded us in that fifth set, and tonight, their arms won. We'll study this match, and we have an opportunity to come back a stronger, better team as this bloodbath of BIG EAST play continues. What a privilege to have played under extreme pressure today. Let's see what we can grow from it."
Four Blue Demons finished with double-digit kills, led by Kendall Timme (16), Martina Diana (13), Isabela Tavares Salomon (12) and Jade Dudley-Epps (11). Tavares Salomon led the way hitting .462, marking her eighth match with at least a .300 hitting percentage and double-digit kills. Timme added 14 digs for a double-double, while libero Abby Cahill collected 19 digs. Diana and Leonor Polezzi each served three aces, and Polezzi dished out 44 assists. DePaul held an edge at the service line, out-aced Georgetown 8-6 and committing half as many service errors (9-18).
