Blue Demons post best league start since 1993

CHICAGO – DePaul volleyball swept Butler 25-21, 25-23, 25-19 on Sunday at McGrath-Phillips Arena to push its overall record to 16-5 and move to 8-2 in BIG EAST play, its best start to league play in more than three decades. Jade Dudley-Epps powered the Blue Demons with a match-high 13 kills on a .632 hitting percentage, adding two aces and three block assists. The Bulldogs slid to 10-12 overall and 4-6 in the conference.

The win was DePaul's fourth-straight in BIG EAST play, its first four-match league winning streak since 2021, and its seventh sweep of the season. Dudley-Epps recorded her fifth-straight match with double-digit kills and her fifth this season hitting at least .500 (minimum of seven kills). Kendall Timme added 11 kills and eight digs, and Isabela Tavares Salomon hit .333 with eight kills. Libero Abby Cahill led the team with 10 digs, and Leonor Polezzi dished out 33 assists.

DePaul hit .295 as a team to Butler's .155 and won the block battle 7.0-5.0. Four Blue Demons finished with at least three blocks: Jocelyn Paige, Tavares Salomon, Polezzi and Dudley-Epps. All of Paige's came in the first set, where she also went 3-for-3 on kills.

"What a tremendous fight from this group," said head coach Marie Zidek. "We doubled down on our weekend goal, battling through those last two tiebreaks with the kind of volleyball that raises our level. Really proud of how they played for each other and delivered another high-end performance for the program."

With 16 wins, Zidek's squad has reached the mark for the third time in the last four seasons.
