Tavares Salomon, Timme hit 15 kills, Creighton’s attack proves the difference in Chicago
CHICAGO – DePaul volleyball held leads of five and eight points in the first two sets, but Creighton's attack was the difference as the Blue Demons fell 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 13-25, 18-25) at McGrath-Phillips Arena on Friday night. DePaul, which entered on a four-match BIG EAST win streak, drops to 16-6 overall and 8-3 in conference play, while Creighton improves to 15-9 and 10-2 and takes sole possession of first place in the BIG EAST. The Blue Demons fall to third in the standings.
The team did such a great job fighting for Amanda [Saeger] tonight, said head coach Marie Zidek. We put ourselves in position in the first set to grab one out of the gate, but Creighton's serve responded. In the second set, we were able to hold our level of play and really step it up. I'm proud of how this team competed and battled tonight. There were many great points.
Isabela Tavares Salomon and Kendall Timme each finished with 15 kills, and Timme added 10 digs. Jocelyn Paige chipped in four kills on .250 hitting. Setter Amanda Saeger dished out a season-high 30 assists with 10 digs. Four Blue Demons reached double-digit digs: Eva Hurrle (12), Abby Cahill (11), Timme (10) and Saeger (10). DePaul totaled nine blocks, led by Jade Dudley-Epps with seven block assists.
Creighton hit .211 for the match to DePaul's .059, led by Trinity Shadd-Ceres (13 kills), Ashlyn Paymal (12 kills, .360) and Katie Dalton (40 assists).
