Blue Demons swept in Sunday matinee at Al McGuire Center

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — DePaul volleyball dropped a 3-0 decision (25-16, 25-18, 25-21) to Marquette on Sunday afternoon at the Al McGuire Center. The setback marks just the second time this season the Blue Demons have suffered consecutive losses, with the previous instance coming against a pair of top-13 programs. With the result, DePaul moves to 16-7 overall while remaining in third place in the BIG EAST. Marquette improves to 15-7 and takes sole possession of first place in the conference.

"Marquette came out firing on offense and made it hard for us to find a rhythm early," said head coach Marie Zidek. "As the match went on, we settled in and had our chances to close out the third set. The biggest thing we learned this weekend is that our next gear is right there for us. Learning that now and bringing it into training will help this program immensely in the long run."

Kendall Timme led DePaul with 11 kills, while Jade Dudley-Epps added nine kills and a team-high 11.5 points. Luisa Juncu hit .455 with five kills on 11 attempts and no errors. Amanda Saeger ran the offense with 23 assists and a team-high 10 digs, while Abby Cahill and Martina Diana each added eight digs. DePaul hit .133 as a team (30 kills, 17 errors, 98 attempts) and finished with 42 digs and four blocks.

Marquette hit .406 (49 kills, 8 errors, 101 attempts) and was led by Carson Tyler's match-high 17 kills on .438 hitting. Emma Parks added eight kills and Molly Welge seven. Luanna Markus dished out 32 assists, and libero Emi Juric tallied 16 digs.

How it Happened
SET ONE | DePaul fell behind 4-0 and took a timeout, but Marquette scored again to make it 5-0 before the Blue Demons got on the board. The Blue Demons found a rhythm, using a 7-4 run to trim a 10-4 deficit to 14-11 before the media timeout, with Juncu, Timme and Dudley-Epps providing the kills. Marquette answered by closing the set on a 6-1 run to take it 25-16.

SET TWO | DePaul jumped out to a 4-2 lead, but Marquette ripped off six-straight points to take a 9-4 advantage. The Blue Demons cut it to 13-10 behind three-straight Timme kills, but Marquette held a lead of at least five the rest of the way. DePaul fought off two set points, with a Juncu kill and the first DePaul block, by Jocelyn Paige and Isabela Tavares-Salomon, pulling it to 24-18 before Marquette closed it out 25-18.

SET THREE | DePaul came out strong, taking the first two points and then scoring five-straight, three of them off blocks and Marquette errors, to build its largest lead of the day at 10-4. Marquette battled back to tie it at 19-19 and again at 20-20, and after a 21-21 tie, the Golden Eagles closed with four-straight points to win 25-21.
